CANFOR North Central Plywoods

Last update: 7:00 p.m. EDT July 30, 2008
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, Jul 30, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- Canfor Corporation (CA:CFP: news, chart, profile) announced today that it has decided not to rebuild its North Central Plywood plant in Prince George, B.C., which was destroyed by fire on May 26, 2008. The insurance proceeds received will be reinvested in the Company's existing facilities. Consistent with this decision, the Board of Directors today approved the expenditure of $13.5 million to construct a wood residue energy facility at Canfor's Fort St. John, B.C. sawmill.

Commenting on the decision, Canfor's President and CEO Jim Shepard said this was a very difficult decision for the Company. "Unfortunately, after considering the changing nature of our available fibre supply and expected future market conditions, the projected economic benefits were not sufficient to justify the significant capital cost of the rebuild."

FIRE AT CANFOR’S NORTH CENTRAL PLYWOOD MILL
May 27, 2008 Vancouver, B.C. - Canfor Corporation (TSX: CFP) announced that its North Central Plywood mill, located in Prince George, BC, has been rendered inoperable as a result of a fire that broke out at the facility during the evening of May 26th, 2008.
Thankfully, there were no serious injuries to employees as a result of the fire. Fire crews, government officials and Canfor personnel remain on site, where the fire is still smoldering.
An information session will be held tomorrow in Prince George in order to brief mill employees. No decisions have been made regarding the status of the operation. The mill annually produces 185 million square feet of plywood on a 3/8” basis and employs approximately 250 people. It is expected that this incident will not have material financial impact on the company.
